‘The weather outside is frightful but Forest School is still delightful!’

As the colder months set in our little adventurers still love to be outdoors enjoying the seasonal changes and exploring in all weathers. However, to get the most out of the winter weather, we need to ensure our little ones are wrapped up in the right clothing!

Our little adventurers love to explore in the colder weather if their clothing is right! Also, as mums and dads we often are so busy running around after our little ones that we then forget to dress for the weather. It is just as vital for us, so spend that extra 5 minutes finding your gloves and hat too.

Don’t forget you don’t need to buy these items new ask other parents at Forest School, search Facebook marketplace, vinted and all other second hand sites- you can find some amazing bargins- we both found Spotty Otter suits for Fern and Jack for £15 each!

Anyway, enough rambling… so clothing, winter, let’s go!

Footwear

Snow boots or wellies are great for the winter. Wellies with warm liners are ideal and if not two pairs of socks, one thin and one thick. Warm dry feet are so important for our little ones. There are lots of wellies about, they don’t have to be super expensive either!

Socks

Welly socks are good for everyday use in the winter, ski socks provide more cushioning and are less likely to slip down, worth a try!

Layers

Layers are vital, as you can add and take away layers to get to the best comfort level and let’s be honest in the Lake District we can go through every season within an hour! Fleece is best as it is still warm even if it does get a little wet! Thermals are also great as they are close to the skin.

Jackets

Spotty Otters waterproofs are very high quality and long-lasting. Most of them are also wipe clean, so easy to get the mud off, after a mucky adventure. For the colder weather, a puff jacket underneath is also a great option, or as a stand-alone jacket. Didrikson’s also offer a lovely range of outdoor clothing.

Dungarees

There are lots of options for dungarees, they don’t have to be super pricey to be effective, Lidl dungarees have a brilliant reputation, so look out for them in the middle isle!

For a snazzy pair, Kuling have lots of cute designs.

Accessories

Hats and mittens are essential for those cold winter days, especially those nippy winds! Again, there is a huge variety to choose from. Personally, I think waterproof mittens are best, no soggy hands and the mud can be washed off!
